3d printed selfies - Dima Elisa Some of you may know Dima Elissa as a WiSTEM mentor; maybe you know her as an investor; or as a fellow entrepreneur; as one of Chicago’s undeniable serial techpreneurs?  Perhaps you’ve seen an instagram or snapchat of a 3D Printed Selfie?  Yes, that’s Dima on the far right and Ms. Katy Lynch on the far left, 3D printed in colored sandstone!

Dima Elissa is a member of Ms.Tech and the Chicago community, and someone I believe all of you should know.  Dima is a special guest as she has been an incredible supporter since the first time we met at our first hackathon back in 2011, SweetHack! Going forward Dima has been one of the strongest supporters of Ms.Tech, including 2016 being her second year serving on the Ms.Tech Executive Council.

Vismed3D-logoDima is an innovator and technology thought leader. Named to Chicago Tribune’s BlueSky Vault Top 100 Entrepreneurs in Chicago, her current venture, VisMed-3D, a biomedical design and consulting firm, has emerged as the leader in for 3D biomedical visualization and printing in personalized medicine.  Alongside this innovative start-up, she is pursuing her passion — devoting time, energy and guidance to women founders and entrepreneurs.  (YASSSS! Now you see why we love her??) As an adjunct faculty member teaching entrepreneurship, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence or in-demand speaker, she exemplifies her commitment to giving back and paying it forward.

Prior to start-ups, she held numerous positions at NutraSweet—including in International Marketing, New Business Ventures and Mergers and Acquisitions.  Her distinct insight and outlook have been sharpened by serving as a board member for domestic and international community-based organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).  Dima holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Hanover College, and earned her MBA from Texas A&M’s May’s School of Business with a concentration in Finance.

In addition to selfless giving us her time and her mind, Dima presently chairs the STEM Steering committee for the Apareció Foundation, she serves on the World Business Chicago Advisory Council for Manufacturing, Vice-Chair of the Chicago Chapter of Women in Bio, and she is a member of the board of trustees for Hanover College.

About our host, 1871

Where do Chicago’s brightest digital designers, engineers and entrepreneurs go to shape new technologies, disrupt old business models, and reset the boundaries of what’s possible? 1871!  The Great Chicago Fire story of 1871 isn’t really about the fire. It’s about what happened next: A remarkable moment when the most brilliant engineers, architects and inventors came together to build a new city. Their innovations – born of passion and practical ingenuity – shaped not just Chicago, but the modern world. What started 140 years ago continues to this day.  1871 is a place where you can share ideas, make mistakes, work hard, build your business and, with a little luck, change the world.
